Hailed by NME as a “genuine, word-of-mouth, go-see-them-then-tell-10-friends-how-amazing-they-are thing” early in their career, Alabama Shakes continue to elicit stellar reviews. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette praised the “power and abandon” of a 2014 show, declaring, “[Alabama Shakes] are killing it live right now.”Covering New Orleans Jazz Fest 2014, The Times-Picayune noted, “singer and rhythm guitarist Brittany Howard…contains a bottomless well of emotion and is ready to splatter it on the stage ’til it’s empty — every time…the Shakes are soaked in soul.” Ohio’s Plain Dealer said, “[Howard] is Marvin Gaye if Marvin Gaye were a woman, a right-handed Jimi Hendrix, a healthy portion of Bessie Smith, a dollop of Muddy Waters, a gallon or two of Tina Turner adrenaline, a goodly amount of AC/DC singer Bon Scott (that’s her comparison, BTW) and one heck of a party.”

The Athens, AL-based band – comprising vocalist/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, drummer Steve Johnson and bassist Zac Cockrell – has been at work on its sophomore album. Boys & Girls (ATO Records), Alabama Shakes’ 2012 debut album, charted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold by the RIAA. The first single, “Hold On,” also certified Gold, wasvoted the #1 Best Song of 2012 by Rolling Stone. Alabama Shakes have been nominated for four GRAMMY® awards, a BRIT and an NME Award.
