ALABAMA SHAKES MAKE THEIR NATIONAL TELEVISION DEBUT TONIGHT ON “CONAN”

“Hold On,” The First Single From Band’s Upcoming Debut Album,

Boys & Girls (Out April 10), Available Now At iTunes

Alabama Shakes – named “Best New Band of the Year” by Paste Magazine and hailed as a “genuine, word-of-mouth, go-see-them-then-tell-10-friends-how-amazing-they-are thing” by NME – will make their national television debut tonight on “Conan.” A pre-order is underway on iTunes for the band’s debut album, Boys & Girls, which is due out April 10 in North America on ATO Records and April 9 internationally via Rough Trade. “Hold On,” the album’s first single, is available now on iTunes and can be streamed at www.alabamashakes.com.

The band just completed its first-ever West Coast run, playing 11 sold-out shows, and will make its London debut later this month with three sold-out nights at Boston Arms. Alabama Shakes will perform at SXSW this spring and additional North American dates will be announced shortly.

“New fans are converted at every gig,” observed Rolling Stone in a recent “Breaking Artist” feature. “The fast-rising soul-indebted rock band is turning ears for its incendiary live sets,” said the Los Angeles Times while BuzzBands.la praised Alabama Shakes’ “ferocious and unpretentious fusion of Southern rock and blues.” The New York Times’ Jon Pareles described lead singer/guitarist Brittany Howard as a “thunderbolt dressed in blue jeans.” “[She is] diving into the wreck of music history and coming up with treasures we can use,” said The Hollywood Reporter.

Jack White’s Third Man Records will release a two-song 7” from the band’s fall 2011 session at Third Man in Nashville later this month. Alabama Shakes recently appeared on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” and NPR’s “World Café.” You can check out Alabama Shakes performing “Hold On” live for MTV Hive’s “First Take” series at:

Alabama Shakes – comprising vocalist/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, drummer Steve Johnson and bassist Zac Cockrell – are based in Athens, Alabama and began playing together when they were in high school. Ben Tanner assists on keyboards. Boys & Girls – produced and mixed by the band – was recorded at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, TN.
