Alabama Shakes have been honored with a total of five GRAMMY nominations. Sound & Color, released by ATO Records, has been nominated for Album of the Year, Best Alternative Music Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. “Don’t Wanna Fight,” the album’s first single, received nods for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. Blake Mills, who co-produced Sound & Color with the band, received a nomination for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical.

 

The group – which will perform on “Austin City Limits” on January 2, 2016 – has also received an NME Awards nomination for Best International Band and three SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards nominations. “Don’t Wanna Fight” was named Song of the Year at the 2015 FMQB Triple A Conference. The official video for “Don’t Wanna Fight,” which was directed by Danny Clinch, can be seen HERE.

 

In April 2015, Sound & Color debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and also topped the Independent, Digital, Rock, Alternative, Internet and Vinyl Albums charts. It is the follow-up to the band’s GRAMMY-nominated 2012 debut, Boys & Girls.Sound & Color has been hailed as one of the best albums of the year by Rolling Stone, which called it “one of the year’s most daring interstellar groove journeys.” Critics at NPR Music, PASTE, American Songwriter, Glide Magazine, Uncut, MOJO and many other outlets have also named it as one of 2015’s best albums. “The Shakes get way down into the groove on what might be their dankest, funkiest tune to date,” said Rolling Stone, placing “Don’t Wanna Fight” in the Top 20 of the year’s best songs.

 

The album’s title track was tapped for the new iPad Pro commercial, which was the No. 1 most Shazamed ad for two consecutive weeks. The song is shooting up the charts and bowed in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Rock Digital Songs and Alternative Digital Songs charts.The official video for “Sound & Color,” which was directed by James Frost (Radiohead, Coldplay, OK Go), has more than 2.5 million views and was nominated for the VEVO Vision Award. Billboard named lead singer/guitarist Brittany Howard as the 2015 Women in Music “Powerhouse” artist. The Women in Music ceremony will air on Lifetime on Friday, December 18. She performed with Sam Moore of the legendary soul duo Sam & Dave at the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize Ceremony honoring Eddie Murphy, which recently premiered on PBS.

 

Alabama Shakes – comprising Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, drummer Steve Johnson, and touringkeyboard players Ben Tanner and Paul Horton – will play a pair of radio station holiday shows in the Pacific Northeast this week – tonight’s KNRK-Portland’s “December To Remember” and KNDD-Seattle’s “The End’s Deck The Hall Ball” (December 8). The band, which just wrapped up a European headline tour, will perform at a series of festivals in South America in March 2016. See below for itinerary.
